Deanery Day Success
A big thank you to all those who attended the Deanery Day meeting at St Margarets House. The turn-out was amazing and the presentations and discussions that ensued very positive.
Social enterprise and communications were very much the themes of the afternoon and lots of ideas were forthcoming as to how we can move forward together as a Deanery.
The next steps are to formalise some of those ideas to be sent to parishes for discussions and approval. In parallel, the Deanery Steering Committee will be making sure the impetus and general commitment felt on the day is carried through into action.
You can find the presentations and notes of the day by clicking here. There will be a section under 'Resources' where this can all be found for future reference. And you will be updated regularly on progress through this newsletter.
Once again, a big thank you. Have a look at the list of outcomes and suggestions from our group discussions on the day by clicking here...
Please don't let us loose this impetus. Please continue to talk within your own communities and please forward any ideas, information or suggestions to Dawn on 07748 985 209 or email towerhamletsdeanery@yahoo.co.uk.

SAMEAG
(Stepney Area Minority Ethnic Anglican Group)
The London Challenge Commitment 2 expects us 'to continue to encourage vocations to all kinds of ministry, and to take action to ensure that leadership in the diocese reflects the range of church membership both in the diversity of background and in age'.
SAMEAG would like to get the ball rolling by identifying the existing level of minority ethnic participation at parish level. Each parish will be receiving a questionnaire and a request to return it giving estimates of the current ethnic groupings.
SAMEAG are also proposing a
Ministry and Vocation Day, to promote ministry amongst our ethnic groups. Details will follow soon but if you are interested in finding out more about SAMEAG's work in the meantime please contact Dawn at towerhamletdeanery@yahoo.co.uk or call 07748 985 209.
CUF XChange and Tower Hamlets Deanery - New Initiative
A grant has been received from the Church Urban Fund to set up a forum, managed by the Deanery, for practitioners involved in grass roots faith-based groups to come together and discuss issues affecting their work.
The forum has various aims:
- to identify and explain effective and distinctive work undertaken by faith-based projects and highlight obstacles being confronted, exploring how these can be resolved.
- to function as a sounding board responding to questions emanating from policy forums and government – including the Cabinet Office and Office of the Third Sector.
- to provoke further debate, research and change.
The forum will meet 3 or 4 times a year and the first one will take place on 18th September at St Paul's Old Ford. The agenda will include a discussion about how projects engage with statutory bodies, eg the LAP, Primary Care Trust and Local Authority departments.
Invitations will be going out to all incumbents, youth workers and any other relevant practitioners. If you wish to be involved contact Sarah Finn at devofficer_towerhamletsdeanery@yahoo.co.uk.
Job Descriptions
We have received another job description for a Parish Administrator, which you will find under the Resources section. Please remember to send any useful pro formas of this kind. Much easier than writing from scratch! Thanks to Christ Church Spitalfields for sharing their JDs.
Cards from Africa
One of our Youth Workers would like to bring to your attention a small Christian charity in Rwanda which works with orphans. As a way to generate money (instead of
being dependent on Aid) they are making very lovely cards. Could local churches and youth groups help to sell their cards?
See their website www.cardsfromafrica.com. They have recently been developing a marketing strategy and are now ready to supply to overseas businesses, schools, charities and community groups.
Intergenerational Project - Transitions
Are you between 12 and 17 or over 50? Are you interested in dance or drama?
If so, you may be interested in joining a new performance project in Bow from 6th to 12th August. Transitions will express the issues affecting our everyday lives explored through the meeting of different generations. Participants will creat a new piece of performance using the skills, ideas and object they bring to the project. Click here for more details.

Remember we are happy to post up your newsletters on the Deanery site. Useful, I think, for us to see how other parishes communicate with their congregations. And always worth seeing in case there are any ideas to pinch!
Well the first to come forward and ask to go on the Deanery site is St Barnabas. Please click here to view or go to St Barnies via the 'Parish' and 'Parish Listings' icon. Their newsletters will be posted up now on a regular basis.
